How to install a travel eSIM (iPhone and Android)
Install the eSIM at home on Wi-Fi before you fly: on iPhone with iOS 17.4 or later tap Install eSIM in the app (one tap), or scan the QR code from Settings > Cellular > Add eSIM. Set it as your data line, keep your main line for calls and SMS, and turn on Data Roaming for the eSIM when you land. Your plan days only start when it first connects at your destination.
iPhone, step by step
- Connect to Wi-Fi. Install before you fly, on a stable Wi-Fi connection. The plan only starts when you land and connect.
- Tap Install eSIM (one tap). On iPhone with iOS 17.4 or later, one tap opens Settings to add the eSIM. Follow the prompts and tap Continue.
- Label it and keep your main line. Name the new line FCK LIMITS (or Travel). Keep your main line as default for calls, SMS and iMessage/WhatsApp.
- Set it as your data line. Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data: choose FCK LIMITS. Turn off "Allow Cellular Data Switching" so your home line is not charged.
- Turn on Data Roaming at your destination. When you land: Settings > Cellular > FCK LIMITS > turn the line on and enable Data Roaming. Give it a minute to connect.
Android
Settings > Connections (or Network & internet) > SIM manager > Add eSIM > Scan QR code. Then pick the new eSIM for mobile data and enable roaming on it. Menu names vary by brand.
Is my phone compatible?
You need an eSIM-capable phone that is carrier-unlocked: iPhone XS/XR or newer, Google Pixel 3 or newer, Samsung Galaxy S20 or newer, and most recent flagships. Check Settings: if you see "Add eSIM", you are good. Phones bought from some carriers may be locked; ask them to unlock it first.
Troubleshooting
- One-tap install failed or did nothing
- Check Wi-Fi is stable (turn off VPN), confirm iOS 17.4+ (Settings > General > About), then use the manual code or QR below.
- Manual install
- Settings > Cellular > Add eSIM > Use QR Code > Enter Details Manually. Paste the SM-DP+ address and activation code.
- QR from another screen
- Open the QR on a computer or second phone and scan it from Settings > Cellular > Add eSIM > Use QR Code.
- Don’t delete the eSIM
- Never delete the line while troubleshooting. If it was deleted, you can usually reinstall it on the same iPhone with the same QR/code, but it can’t be moved to another phone. If that fails, open Help > Contact support in the app and we can send a replacement.
- Installed but no internet
- Make sure the FCK LIMITS line is on, selected for Cellular Data and Data Roaming is on. Toggle Airplane Mode for 10 seconds or restart. It only connects at your destination.
- "Unable to complete cellular plan change" / carrier locked
- Your phone may be carrier-locked or out of eSIM slots. Ask your carrier to unlock it, or remove an old unused plan.
- Still stuck?
- Open Help > Contact support in the app. We’ll check your eSIM live and sort it out, including a replacement eSIM if needed.
If the eSIM gets deleted, it can usually be reinstalled on the same iPhone using the same QR code or manual code. It can’t be transferred to another device.
